L’Instant X

12.20.12 Posted in Personal by Rebecca Clark

12/21/12. To some, it heralds the dawn of a golden age. To others, it marks the end. In reality, it’s just another day. Right?

The last time a day of such overheated importance passed was just under twelve years ago, on 01/01/00. French singer Mylene Farmer paid tribute with her song “L’Instant X,” whose title needs no translation. Its lyrics are playful and tongue-in-cheek, and she plays with the idea that the date itself is meaningless. What really matters is the meaning that individuals choose to give it.

I can’t argue with the fact that 2012 truly was a year of great change, at least on a personal level. New opportunities have come to light, and many of my old habits no longer hold their same appeal. While I wish tomorrow really would mark a shift in global consciousness, I know I won’t actually be waking up to a brave and wonderful new world. What I can do, however, is live my own life as though I’ve passed through L’Instant X and come out shiny and new on the other side.

Best of luck in the 14th baktun, and be sure to make it mean something. :-)
